Burmese EC approves Suu Kyi contest bye Poll

Burmese Election Commission approves  Suu Kyi to contest bye Poll

Burmese Election Commission on Monday formally approved Aung San Suu Kyi to run for a seat in Parliament in the April 1 by-election, a further sign of its acceptance of a more open political atmosphere and another step to national reconciliation.

Aung San Suu Kyi greets her supporters outside the Thanlyin Election Commission in Rangoon Region on Monday, February 6, 2012.

A spokesperson for her party, the National League for Democracy, which is running 48 candidates for empty seats, said, “There is no objection to her nomination, and we can say that her candidacy is officially accepted.”

Suu Kyi conducted a campaign trip last week to Dawei, an industrial zone in southern Burma, where she spoke to NLD members and was greeted by thousands of supporters along her route. A campaign trip to Mandalay was postponed last week after a failure to obtain a suitable stadium to hold all of her supporters.

Her official candidacy is another step in fulfilling the demands of Western governments who want to see Burma move to a democratic system at a faster pace. Western political leaders look to Suu Kyi as a bellwether to determine the openness of Burma’s military-dominated government. More rapid changes and a free and fair by-election could prompt the West to lift the economic sanctions that were imposed on the country during the military junta's rule. The U.N. human rights envoy for Burma on Monday called for authorities to allow outside international observers to monitor the polling, a request it said is “under consideration.”

Observers, who are still skeptical of Burma’s rapid changes over the past year, note that opposition groups within Parliament will hold only minimal power. Parliament seats are dominated by the state-backed political party, which is heavily weighted by former and current military officers.

However, Suu Kyi is expected to become even more influential as Burma attempts to tackle its No. 1 political problem, which is how to achieve a lasting peace with diverse ethnic groups who have fought the Burman-dominated government for 50 years.

The government engaged individual groups in cease-fire and political agreements, and it’s widely anticipated that Suu Kyi could play a decisive role in the next step, which would involve national-level negotiations that bring the two sides together. However, the obstacles to a quick agreement are significant.

Suu Kyi is seeking a seat representing Kawhmu, a poor district south of Rangoon, which was devastated by Cyclone Nargis in 2008.

“ONE WOMAN” BALLET WITH UMA SAHRMA AS “STREE

“one woman” ballet with Uma Sahrma as “STREE  on 29th February, 2012

Uma Sharma’s “STREE” is Every-woman. The form is dance. Classical Kathak with new format. A solo ballet. The woman is supreme. Man is only a symbol. The music accentuates, the narration helps clarify history.
But the presentation by Uma Sharma is in a manner in which content does not become argument. It remains pure dance. Aesthetically and visually, it is an art experience. It is the theme which is the argument. Any theme is, even if you depict nature. The way you depict it tells you whether it is beautiful or ugly. The comment is always implicit. If Uma Sharma succeeds in communication through her art what it is to be a woman there is no argument there. It is a statement. A kind of statement that can come only from an inner fire because she too is a woman and through her art because she is a dancer.
Dance choreography by Uma Sharma and Music by Pt. Jawala Prasad.
Script: Aruna Vasudev
Lyrics: Rifat Sarosh
Lighting: Nitin Jain
Uma Sharma as “Stree”
Narrators: S.M. Zaheer (Urdu), Abhinav Chaturvedi (Hindi & Sanskrit)
Pt. Jawala Prasad has composed the haunting music. Rifat Sarosh has written the evocative lyrics, which suggest, describe and evoke the moods of the “woman” as she goes from the joy and the pride, through humiliation and subjugation to her final manifestation as today’s “Durga” – independent and strong.

The performance will be at Kamani Auditorium on 29th February, 2012. I will be inviting leading lady personalities from different fields, viz. Dancers, actors, lawyers, politicians, social workers, bureaucrats, painters, and parliamentarians etc. who will be honored.

Judge Saini asks criminality at the pre summon stage. He could have ordered CBI investigation once I showed that PC was at "scene of crime"

Subramanian Swamy

Now that Judge Saini has admitted that decisions were taken jointly by PC and Raja I am one easy step away of proving prima facie case in SC

Subramanian Swamy

Am in Mumbai. Next two day out of range so maybe no tweets.

: The curious part of the Saini order is in paras 62 onwards: PC and Raja jointly decided. But Raja only guilty !
Subramanian Swamy

Yet Saini says Raja's act is criminal but PC's concurring is not! Fit case for appeal.
Subramanian Swamy

In a war the final victory is with lost battles on the way. Saini's order is one such.He concurs that Raja and PC decided together
Subramanian Swamy

I thank all patriotic tweeples for the expression of solidarity. I assure you I will not let go till justice prevails.
The above tweets of Dr Swamy is after Delhi court's dismissal of his petition against Home Minister P. Chidambaram in the 2G case and described it as "wrong".
Janata Party chief Subramanian Swamy  said,z" I am one easy step away of proving prima facie case in SC" he will thus  prove the decision wrong in the Supreme Court.
Media agency reports , Dr Swamy, claimed Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) had dossiers on black money stashed away by Indian ministers in foreign banks.
"Prima facie, I established a case against Chidambaram and even the court agreed. I wanted the court to summon him to establish his criminality and cross-examine him as to why he agreed to the 2001 pricing (for airwaves) and share dilution of companies," Swamy said.
Dr Swamy said that he will soon move the Supreme Court against Chidambaram.
