Nirupama Vaidyanathan: Media interaction on launch of her Memoir “The Moonballer”

2082013

Nirupama, Vaidyanathan, was the numbe .1 female tennis player from India in 1991 to 2001.She made a comeback and played at the CWG 2010 and Asian games 2010 alongside Sania Mirza,Mahesh and Peas.To a question about the available space of more matched in India she added that players need more matches and need to play abroad to gain strength and experience in variety of courts and environments.
She was  the first Indian woman to win a round at a Grand Slam at Australian Open  in 1998. Addressing the media she  said various federations across the board needed to take advice from senior sportsperson to improve the state of affairs. She had offered to coach youngsters and upcoming talent but the All India Tennis Association (AITA) turned her down said on the sidelines of the launch of her book ‘The Moonballer’.
“When I offered my expertise to AITA they didn’t care. I hope they change. They can do a lot better as  there is so much potential here. The  sports person may or may not run a federation, but a lot of changes can be brought in even in an advisory role,” said Nirupama.
“Even when I was playing, AITA could have done a lot more. They could have tried to get me sponsors but, as I have said before, they didn’t bother me in anyway so it is fine,” she added.
Nirupama runs  in Santa Clara,California, the tennis academy Neru’s Tennis Academy said that if she was to join the AITA in the future it would have to be on her “terms and conditions” and made clear that she would not want “any outside interference”.
“My aim is to help juniors as much as possible. But if I am to join the AITA it has to be on my terms and conditions. There can be no bias towards players and no interference from outside.”
On question of improving the tennis standard in India, Nirupama pointed out that India needed to hold more professional tournaments to set high standards for the young players.
“Once you cross the grassroot level, you only play local talent in domestic tournaments. There need to be more professional tournaments. Players  need to go abroad to play  the only way to improve” .
On another question  to  opening an academy in India, Nirupama said: “I’m thinking about it but one needs to give hundred percent and at the moment not possible but in the within couple of years find things can mend to such cause.

The judgement which be affecting 80% SC/ST/OBC population:Sharad

In the meeting of the Leaders of Political Parties in Parliament held yesterday the 1st August, 2013, the recent judgment of constitutional bench of Supreme Court (faculty association of AIIMS vs. union of India) against the reservation policy for SC/ST/OBC was raised and discussed.   All the party leaders were shocked and showed their deep anguish against this judgment. All were of the opinion that the Government should take all necessary steps immediately so that 80 % population of this country should not at all be affected by this judgment. The parties were very much concerned and were of the view that it has become practice by the judiciary to give such sensitive judgments in hurry and without hearing all parties properly.  These anti reservation judgments are often delivered during sensitive time.  When the country is passing through a difficult period, such sensitive judgements should not have been given which may cause uproar in the country.  If this judgment is implemented then reservation will only be applicable in group C & D posts and will be practically scraped at all higher levels.  All leaders in the meeting were of the unanimous view that unless this matter is solved before ensuring session of Parliament, the functioning of the session of Parliament would be difficult. The judgement which will be affecting 80% SC/ST/OBC population of this country, all MPs of the deprived section of the Society will raise their voice in the Parliament and other Politicians and social workers outside Parliament who are fighting for social justice. It was further stated by all Leaders in the meeting that this is a very dangerous anti SC/ST/OBC movement in the country since the independence.  It was consented by all leaders that if the Government does not have any immediate amicable solution before this session of Parliament, the Government should come with Constitutional Amendment Bill in this regard so that the above judgement is completely nullified.  Further, it was discussed that the Government should get this judgement stayed immediately so that the functioning of the ensuing
session of Parliament is not disturbed.  I am sure that all MP’s of both the Houses who have been fighting for centuries for social justice in the country would understand the gravity of the above judgement and would not allow the Houses to function in the coming session of Parliament.

I would like to thank all leaders of various parties who have supported me for social cause against this judgment.  Further, my Party has cautioned and advised the Government to resolve this matter at the earliest for social justice in the country, and also in the interest of functioning of the ensuing session of Parliament.

Myanmar floods leave 33,000 in camps

Posted on August 2, 2013 by sagarmedia
Tens of thousands of people were sheltering in relief camps in eastern Myanmar after flash floods swept the region leaving three dead, state media said, warning of more heavy rain to come.

Nearly 33,500 people have been moved to 79 camps in Karen State after monsoon floods that also caused three deaths and left another person missing, according to state media.

Some 245 schools have also been closed while landslides have damaged roads after rains began to pound the state on July 27, the reported added.

In neighbouring Mon State a further 4,700 people were temporarily displaced by floods but some have now returned to their homes. The United Nations said it had delivered some medical aid including water purification tablets to both states.

State media warned people who live next to rivers in the Irrawaddy Delta further to the west to prepare for heavy rains.

“All those who live in the delta region and at either side of the rivers are urged to take necessary preventive measures against the natural disasters as there may be incessant rains in the coming days,” it said.

“People also need to be aware of the dangers of electric shocks, snakes, landslides and collapse of trees,” it added.

Parts of Myanmar are inundated each year during the monsoon period, which ends in October.

Lame Duck Hydro Power in HP, J&K & UK- New Hydro Power Policy (C)

August01, 2013

Honorable Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh
Cc to Honorable Chief Minister of HP, Shri Virbhadra Singh,
Honorable Chief Minister of J&K, Shri Umar Abdullah,
Honorable Chief Minister of UttarKhand, Shri Vijay Bahuguna,

New Executive Summary: -  It is shocking to discover Most Weird & Lame Duck Kuther HEP in Himachal Pradesh that shall generate power for 3 hours in a day and no other benefit. Bhakra Dam can operate at full power non stop for months.
India and Pakistan had witnessed some of the most Dreadful & Disgraceful Floods – Uttarakhand worst natural disaster in terms of Human Loss and Pakistan Floods of 2010 were Worst Ever Disaster in the World in terms to ECONOMIC LOSSES, submergence – Uttarkhand Disaster was mainly due Weird Idea of Rain Water Harvesting on Fragile Hill Slopes on 1.9m Hectares & not building Storage Dams on INDUS RIVER that would have absorbed all the Floods & Debris. Pakistan Floods were partly reduced by Bhakra, Pong & Thein Dams but no storage dams in Kashmir, HIMAYALAS to absorb floods.

New Hydro Power Policy should promote Storage Dams that shall fully utilize Hydro Power POTENTIAL with INCENTIVES to Hill States to Fund Their Own Multipurpose Projects – Get 50% and 100% of Power Benefits in Central/Joint Ventures and State Owned Projects, to sell surplus power under long term PPA with Lower Basins, & Lower Basins to regulate Dams for Flood Control respect.
PROMOTE - Bhakra Dam Benefits Power Flood Control & Water Storage, Supply. Life 200-500 Yrs.    STOP – Damage to Mountain Slopes  Uttarakhand 1.9m Hectare Water Harvesting Program – Land Slides Damage Everywhere.

Old Executive Summary: - When dams are backbone of any civilization – Storing Water for Irrigation, Municipal Supplies and Industry, Generating Power, Flood Control, Recreation, Navigation, Fish Production, Road Bridges and House Boats etc., Dam being built in our hill states with tremendous hydro power potential are Most Expensive Lame Duck Hydro Projects operating or Planned to Operate at less than 39% Load Factor. Satluj River Basin upstream of Bhakra Dam has 105 BU of Electric Energy in Himachal Pradesh – over 140 BU including River Basin in China so at 80% efficiency India should be producing 84 BU to 112 BU (with China Collaboration) of electricity every year. As per latest CEA report Actual Hydro Power Generation on Dams Upstream of Bhakra Dam in Satlej Basin for above average year 2011-12 is 11.5 BU. It is MOST SHOCKING all the SILT carried by Sutlej River is bypassed through all Dams on Sutlej River upstream of Bhakra Dam to be dumped in
Bhakra Dam - the primary storage dam on the river and lifeline of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.

Respected Sir,
The differences between three Water Projects - Multipurpose Bhakra Dam is just 400mt Intervention in Satlej River producing 1380 MW Plus more benefits, Built by Pundit JL Nehru is like KEY HOLE SURGERY and, Rupin HEP 45 MW Project is 9000m Tunneling, Three Sites (Two Dams + Power House At Tail) Planned By Shri PS Dhumal is OPEN CHEST OPERATION and RWH of Gen BC Khanduri is like ALL BODY SKIN GRAFT to 80% burn patient in Himalayas.
DAMS BUILT BY PT. JAWAHAR LAL NEHRU

1.]  Pandit JL Nehru built 50 Years old Bhakra Dam is 400 meter Obstruction in Sutlej River produces 600 crore units of Electricity Every Year, Control 100% Floods (But for Mischief By Corrupt Chairman Who Didn’t Make Full Use of Water & Power) and supply 18 BCM to 20 BCM water to Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi. Canal networks take Sutlej Rivers waters from Bhakra Dam to even Jaisalmer & Bikaner deserts and Delhi.

DAMS BUILT BY PREM S. DHUMAL

2.]  Sh. PC Dhumal Planned RUPIN 45 MW HEP as given here in picture the Most Weird & Least Productive Dam. Rupin HEP has Three sites Nargani Diversion Barrage, Rupin Dam and Power House spread over 10 kilometers and Red Line represents Tunnels drilled in Himalayas. There is no Storage therefore Power Generation entirely depends on Inflows therefore Most Unreliable.

    Just a Look it is Obvious Almost The Entire Catchment (Shaded Area) water in flows are not captured by the RUPIN 45 MW HEP – Flood Water Bypass Project, Shaded Area Flows are not Captured, and 20% water is lost in De-silting – Real Load factor of this project is barely 25% to 30%.

    Two 120m Storage Dams, one in the middle and at the bottom would capture 100% Flows and Generate Maximum Power As Base Load or For Long Peak Hours.

WATER HARVESTING BY GEN. BC KHANDURI

3.]  Picture on the Left in Executive Summary was implementation of Uttarkhand Perspective And Strategic Plan 2009-2027 was introduced by BC Khanduri under guidance of GD Agarwal and other Lunatics that brought down Uttarakhand.

UTTARAKHAND STATE PERSPECTIVE AND STRATEGIC PLAN, 2009-2027
‘19.31 lakh ha. area would be taken up for treatment in all the districts of the State. Of the 537 untreated MWS 409 have been shortlisted for the Integrated Watershed Management Project (IWMP).’
DAMS NOT BUILT BY NARENDRA MODI

4.]  Sardar Sarovar Dam was over 70% Built in 1994 when NBA filed PIL to resettle Project Affected People – in 20 years BJP Narendra Couldn’t Build Life Line of Gujarat – Narmada Waters Go Waste to Sea In Spite of 6-7 Large Dams Built on River.
Sardar Sarovar Dam Gujarat

5.]  Kuther 240MW HEP Shall Cost Rs.1915 crores to Rs.3000 crores Shall Generate Power For only 1.5hr  + 1.5hrs in a day That too Depending on Inflows.

    DO WE NEED SUCH LAMEDUCK HEP WITH NO OTHER BENEFITS?

http://hppcb.nic.in/KutherSummary_Eng.pdf
2.1 Power Benefits: The energy benefits from the project have been assessed as about 905.0 MU and  1092.24 MU per annum in 90% and 50% dependable years respectively. Out of this 1.2% of the units generated shall be accounted for auxiliary consumption and 0.5% shall be taken as loss in the transmission upto bus bars. Thus, the net energy available at bus bar will be 889.67 MUs. The project envisages peaking operation of 3 hrs. in two spans of 1.5 hr. each in a period of 24 hrs.

REMEDY
NEW HYDRO POWER POLICY [NHPP]

NHPP is Key to Economically & Speedily Develop Hydro Power Potential, Dam projects that are entirely within the Upper Riparian like Rupin HEP.

Columbia Water Treaty between US & Canada is IDEAL for MULTI-PURPOSE HEP.
Lower Riparian partly fund the Storage Dams in Upper Basin to Store Water for Flood Protection & Multiple Uses by Lower Riparian with control to operate Storage Dams for Flood Control.

NHPP should allow Upper Riparian HP, UK and J&K to Develop Maximum Hydro Power Potential Building Storage Dams.

Central Government may contribute 100% of cost in case of PSU project and 50% in case of State PSU developing the project. 50% of the power generated shall be sold to Lower Riparian on Long Term PPA and 50% to Upper Riparian.

Pakistan too shall opt for this NHPP and prefer J&K to develop Storage Projects for Maximum Power Generation, Flood Control and Irrigation shall accrue to Lower Riparian. PAKISTAN THUS SHALL GET 50% POWER & FULL STORAGE BENEFITS.

INDIA TO OFFER THIS NHPP TO NEPAL, SIKKIM & BHUTAN ALSO.

Thank you,

Indian Firms Tapping Leadership as a Route to Growth

Investing Megabucks on Leadership Development
New Delhi August 1, 2013

At a time when most Indian firms are cutting costs to improve bottom lines in a sluggish economic environment, a select few are taking a contrarian route and investing heavily on developing leaders.
At least a dozen owner driven companies, including CK Birla group, Dr Reddy’s, GMR, Jindal Steel, Reliance Industries and Sterlite, are said to be investing Rs 5 to Rs 15 crore on leadership development over and above their regular training allocation.

As more and more organisations view leadership development as a route to growth and invest in Leadership Development initiatives, the Human Resources space is galvanizing into action. The
Big 4 consultancy firms are moving beyond strategy-based solutions to advice on achieving excellence -- both at operational and execution levels.

Leadership – A Tool for Growth
While most organisations implement learning and development programmes to train employees, some Indian companies are aggressively using Leadership Development as a tool for growth.

“Leadership development is now being oriented for the growth of the company in domestic and global markets as also for the succession plan,” says Yogi Sriram, Senior Vice President, Corporate HR of India's largest engineering & construction conglomerate L&T, which offers leadership programs across all levels and functions.
Companies across sectors, old and new economy alike, are taking note of the complex nature leadership in today’s fast-paced world of changing variables and faster communication.

“In order to perform sustainably in today’s competitive markets the culture of the organization, and its ability to innovate and to satisfy stakeholders depends on the quality of the leadership,” says Sonia Stojanovic, who served as a Senior Practice Expert in Organisation Behaviour at McKinsey’s New York office.

“Today’s leaders need to be more agile and flexible to make course changes, in challenging situations and in turbulent times,” says Sriram. These skills can be inculcated via leadership programs, by providing 270 degree feedback, which help the individuals develop leadership behaviours and consistency.

Considered a softer side of an organisation, not so long ago leadership interventions are beginning to show quantifiable gains. “We have seen phenomenal results from our six-month leadership program where we trained 200 people in three cohorts for two months each. It has ploughed back Rs 218 crore for us, in actual terms,” says Rajeev Bhadauria, Director, Group HR at steelmaker Jindal Steel.

Jindal Steel plans a six month leadership development intervention this year for hundred additional employees, involving workshops, action learning projects and one-to-one coaching.

“Earlier the Big Four had leadership programs concentrating on only 30-40 people in an organisation. This model is not relevant now. We need leadership to be available across all levels of an organisation,” says Bhadauria.
Expanding the Market

To tap into this opportunity, many consultancy firms have set up a separate Leadership Practice or a Leadership Institute, which enables them to undertake leadership intervention in a more focussed way and at a large scale.
“McKinsey started it in the mid-90s and now almost all the bigger consultancy firms Deloitte, PwC, Bain have set up practices for leadership development. Today, leadership has become complex. Earlier the leader was the boss but now, a single individual cannot do it,” says Stojanovic.

This development is expanding the market, feels Santhosh Babu, CEO Coach and Founding MD of Organisation Development Alternatives. The pie is expected to grow to more than Rs500 crore over the next 18-24 months.
The 16-year old Organisation Development Alternatives (ODA) conducts a year-long leadership development program for companies like Vodafone, Engineers India Limited and MSD. It also partners Jindal Steel in its leadership development initiative.

The demand for leadership is spurred as much by the need to have a leadership pipeline in place, especially for Indian family-owned businesses, as by the need to build agility, specifically in people, as an area of competency.
Generic drugmaker Ranbaxy is among the companies transforming its culture and moving into the next orbit of growth. It considers leadership development as one of the many tools for building this culture.
