Having begun their I-League campaign with a string of away matches which began with a 0-0 draw against Sporting Club de Goa in Goa, DSK Shivajians Football Club went on to lose the next two matches. They went down fighting 0-2 to Aizawl FC at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Aizawl. They were unlucky to go down 1-0 to East Bengal FC in their third match of the campaign. DSK Shivajians’ first ever home match also ended in a defeat at the hands of the defending champions Mohan Bagan AC.
Mumbai FC, in contrast, started their I-League campaign with a 0-0 draw with East Bengal FC. The Mumbai-based club then registered two back-to-back victories against Salgaocar FC and Bengaluru FC, respectively.
Derrick Pereira, Head Coach, DSK Shivajians, speaking before the match, said: “With every match, our performance has improved and the entire team is working hard and everybody is in good spirits and looking forward to register first victory in tomorrow’s match. We are yet to score, however we had quite a few chances in the last match and have been working on the finishing during the last week. We have seen the confidence and chemistry grow and develop with every passing day.”
“We need to create more chances and finish those chances. Tomorrow’s match will be a good match as Mumbai FC is a good fighting team and understating between team is very good. They have a good squad including a few very special players. They are also on a good run of form, having beaten Bengaluru FC recently. On the other hand, our performance is getting better with every passing match and we are confident that we can get points on the table.”
